Society’s Tip From Ed Ruscha

Painting by Ed Ruscha.

What I found beautiful about Ed Ruscha’s series of paintings made of nontraditional art supplies was the fact that he didn’t limit himself to traditional paint and brush. Gunpowder. Tobacco. Ketchup. Caviar. Chocolate. Cilantro. He’s used all of these to make his paintings of simple words like “well, Roughly”, “Just a moment now”, and “Spread”. His paintings were basic but unique.

I honestly feel like society could take a bit of a tip from Ruscha. It’s not uncommon for many to feel the need to fit into society’s standards even if they could be unhealthy and damaging for them. I wish we didn’t feel the need or pressure to conform to society’s standards because being unique in your own way can make you more beautiful.
