Going Outside While Staying Inside

As someone who grew up on video games, reading Ananya Udaygiri’s editorial on “How Animal Crossing Will Save Gen Z” really resonated with me on a personal level. Through all my bad days when I’ve needed to turn to something to cheer me up, I knew I could turn to video games. Whether it’s playing with friends or playing alone, I know the relief of escaping to a different world all too well. Especially during a time of quarantine where all we do is stay at home, what better way to “get out of your house” than to escape into an alternate universe? Either to a peaceful island with villagers like “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” or to an exciting world of fighting monsters and dinosaurs in “Monster Hunter: World” or even to a world that you can build from the ground up such as “Minecraft’’ (all of which are multiplayer games). Although it might not be the same as going outside with your friends, getting away to a place other than home is something we could all use, even if that means virtually.
